WORLD PREMIERE. Morgan can't bring himself to join his Chicago college classmates in graduation-day rituals. Using his handheld tape-recorder diary and ironic wit as a shield against his outsider feelings, his stoicism is invaded by Kate (Rumer Willis), in whom he finds a fellow soul exasperated by the shallow interests of their peers. Impulsively taking Kate's dare to drive down to her parents' hotel in Florida, Preston's journey soon becomes more than just a road trip. Soon after arriving in Florida, he receives an odd request for a visit from Kate's estranged grandfather John (Robert Loggia), and is bewildered by how quickly Kate's mood turns harsh and angry over Preston's innocent conversation with the old man. Long-festering dark family secrets begin to rise to the surface, and as Preston begins to fall for Kate, he's not convinced by the official story and resolves to dig deeper, despite the clear risk of Kate's rejection. Writer/director/co-producer Sean Ackerman, a true American independent, effortlessly weaves the breathtaking beauty of Florida's Amelia Island into the texture of the story, to sweeping romantic effect. - Jaie Laplante
