EAST COAST PREMIERE. Married to career-obsessed Denver surgeon Dr. Joseph Winter (Kevin Kline), Beth (Diane Keaton) is feeling edgy with an impending empty nest situation. She discovers an abandoned and mistreated dog by the side of the freeway. Despite Joseph's obsessions, "Freeway" becomes a part of the family. Later, during a gathering at the Winters' mountain-cottage retreat, Freeway chases a deer while on a walk with Joseph and becomes lost. With the support of Joseph's sister Penny (Dianne Wiest), her suspect new beau Russell (Richard Jenkins), Joseph's nephew Bryan (Mark Duplass) and the curmudgeonly local sheriff (Sam Shephard), the search for Freeway carries out over several days and many misadventures, both comic and serious, as Beth's frustrations with Joseph approach their nadir. Meanwhile, Freeway's chances of survival grow increasingly slim in the bear-populated woods.
Miami-born writer/director Lawrence Kasdan, working once again with his wife Meg as co-scenarist, returns to the ensemble comedy/drama form that has resulted in such memorable creations as the Oscar nominated The Big Chill and Grand Canyon. As always, Kasdan's wit and wisdom is evident in one of the finest creations of his career, as the laughs lead to thoughtful questions on the meaning and responsibility of being a companion to another. - Jaie Laplante
KEVIN KLINE, RICHARD JENKINS AND LAWRENCE & MEG KASDAN ARE EXPECTED TO BE PRESENT.
A DISCUSSION WITH THE ACTORS AND FILMMAKERS WILL BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE SCREENING.
